Lefebre rocks the Three Rivers

By Brett Carlson - Thursday, Jul. 30, 2009, 7:11 PM
PITTSBURGH – Tournament bass fishermen are known as exaggerators, and when a $1 million first-place purse is on the line, credible information can be scarce. All week long we heard report after report of brutally tough fishing on the Three Rivers. But on day one of the Forrest Wood Cup, two dozen pros caught five-fish limits – some of them solid in size.

By Brett Carlson - Thursday, Jul. 30, 2009, 8:12 AM
PITTSBURGH – When the Pittsburgh Steelers claimed Super Bowl XLIII by a score of 27-23 over the Arizona Cardinals last February, it wasn't easy. The Pittsburgh Penguins needed every bit of seven games to claim the Stanley Cup from the Detroit Red Wings. The city of Pittsburgh is no stranger to champions, but claiming the richest award in professional bass fishing will be an arduous task.

It's been a long and arduous 2009 season on the Walmart FLW Tour. The anglers are physically and mentally exhausted and those who qualified for the Forrest Wood Cup are scratching and clawing at the brutally tough Three Rivers in Pittsburgh, Pa. For FLW Fantasy Fishing players, the season hasn't been laborious. But that doesn't mean this final week won't be nerve-wracking.

Thrice is nice for Martin, Wendlandt

By Brett Carlson - Sunday, Jul. 12, 2009, 6:52 PM
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – When Scott Martin came across a series of offshore rock piles in practice, he stopped to investigate. These isolated sweet spots, located on a Missisquoi Bay flat, were loaded with largemouth bass hiding in a mix of healthy grass, and Martin thought they could potentially go the distance. Clark Wendlandt, however, had no intentions of winning the tournament. His sights were set on becoming the first to win three Angler of the Year titles.

Martin capitalizes as Champlain turns ugly

By Brett Carlson - Saturday, Jul. 11, 2009, 8:26 PM
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – When placid, Lake Champlain is a dream come true for bass fishermen. But when the wind blows, especially from the south, the lake feels like a never-ending rollercoaster. In dangerous conditions, only two pros made the 70-mile run south to Ticonderoga. But the leader stayed up north and caught a nice limit of largemouths.
